Lazy eye is another vision problem related to vision.

Amblyopia is a disease that causes abnormal vision or unclear vision, resulting in reduced vision. It usually occurs in only one eye, or in some cases, both eyes.

What causes lazy eye? 

  • Uneven vision, may be nearsighted, farsighted, or astigmatic.
  • Caused by squint, crossed eyes, cataracts and ptosis. 
  • Visual deviation that causes unilateral use 
  • Visual organ impairment

What are the symptoms? 

  • Blurred vision 
  • The eyes are not working in balance, either on one side or both sides are bad.
  • You have to try to tilt your head and cover one eye with your hand to see clearly.
  • Measuring distances, objects or people will become increasingly difficult.
  • There is an incoherent deviation of the eyeball, such as it may bend inward or outward.

How is lazy eye diagnosed?

Initially, the eyesight will be measured to see if there is strabismus, squint, or other eye abnormalities. The technique or method of examination depends mainly on the age. If the child has strabismus, squint, the pediatrician will refer the child to an ophthalmologist for diagnosis, treatment, and close care to prevent lazy eye from occurring in the future.

Complications

If patients do not receive proper and timely treatment, their vision may decrease, which can lead to permanent vision loss. 

How to treat lazy eye? 

  • For patients with unilateral strabismus. The doctor will close the normal eye to allow the affect eye to be used until both eyes can see normally. Then, an appointment will made for strabismus surgery.
  • For patients with nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and unequal vision, the doctor will prescribe them to wear glasses. If their vision does not improve, they will continue to wear glasses. 

How can lazy eye prevent? 

You should have regular eye screenings with an ophthalmologist to check if there are any causes or risk factors that indicat. If any are found, treatment can given correctly and promptly to prevent lazy eye.
