Manchester City were sadly knock out of the Carabao Cup after losing 2-1 at Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

Timo Werner gave Spurs an early lead in the fifth minute. Before Pape Sarr struck a stunning long-range effort to put the home side two goals ahead in the 25th minute. Originally a substitute but started in place of the injured Akanji, he looked the best in City’s defence in the first half before being substituted at half-time.

He was another man responsible for the home side’s first goal, having been hampered by the pace of Spurs’ forwards, but looked better when moved to centre-back in the second half.

Being force to play as a forward in an unfamiliar position made him too isolated. He could not link up with his teammates at all. Everything he did seemed awkward. It was no wonder he was substitute.
